10-12 DECEMBER 2012: MAD CAMP 2012 (DAY 1)
posted: 10:45 PM | comments: 0

Soaring Eagles organized their annual youth camp again, Mad Camp 2012! Around 48 youths, along with a few leaders participated in the camp which is situated in Sepang. We camped in a hotel this time known as Hotel Seri Malaysia Bagan Lalang.

Being one of the committee members of the camp, I had to go to church earlier than the other campers for a short briefing about the camp and help out. We also wrote words of encouragement to each other on sticky pads and pasted it on our name tags.

This time I was in charge of the food together with Kimberly. My role in this camp was to ensure all the campers have enough food to eat, make sure that the food is ready by then and also sell Maggi Cups for supper lol. And also buy chicken rice for the committee members and other campers who came early. To be honest, Kimberly did more jobs because I couldn't make it for most meetings. I feel bad. :x But it was great working with her!

With Caleb and Becca.

John, the camp coordinator!

Big Ben loool.

More campers starting filling the hall from 11.30 onward. Once everyone had reached, we had an ice-breaking session where we got separated into two teams. One team will be standing, and the other team will be doing the opposite which is squatting/sitting. Whenever Rebecca says a word which starts with the letter B, the team who was standing had to squat/sit while the opposite team who was squatting/sitting had to stand instead. The game was really tiring yet fun!

Watched the Mad Camp promo one more time before we headed into our bus. Sat with Bailey in the bus. The journey took about an hour and 30 minutes. Took pictures, chatted and slept along the way.

With Deborah in the bus.

Baileeey!

Reached the campsite and carried our luggage into the hall. We were introduced and welcomed to the campsite by our camp coordinator, John Ng. Then, we had another two more ice-breaking sessions. In the first game, we played scissors paper stone using body language and the loser had to follow behind the winner. The one who wins most gets the longest line of people behind him/her. I forgot who was the winner but what I remember was I immediately lost the first round. OKAY.JPG

There was another activity where everyone was given a list of tasks we have to complete in order to win the game. We had to complete tasks such as collecting signatures of August babies, do the can-can dance along with four people, run around the hall and all those silly silly things. The one I dislike most was the push-ups. Please note that I'm not a person who works out. T.T

Received our camp books later on. Bailey who was the camp commander read out the rules and regulations of the camp.

We were assigned into our groups later on. I was chosen to be the group leader together with Samuel Lee. There were 7 of us altogether, me, Samuel, Deborah, Su Jane, Karyn, Kenneth and Jun. Then, we were lead into our rooms. I was pretty satisfied with the room, it consisted of one queen sized bed and a single bed. I shared a room with Eve and Hazel. We connected our beds so we could sleep together. Oh, it also had a proper toilet with a shower FIXED WITH A WATER HEATHER OMG YAY. I can't bathe with cold water one okay.

My pretty roommates! Eve on the left and Hazel on the right.

The campers gathered back at the hall. We did our first activity as a group which was to build the tallest and most creative monument using balloons. My team got third for that. We had to come up with a group name and a group chant after the games. If you watched the promo, you can roughly guess the theme for this year's Mad Camp which was about being a spy and all. We were all known as agents and our mission was to complete tasks to win clues in order to search for the killer! Our group name was A.P.E (Agents to Prevent Evil). We Googled for the name actually lol. The group chant was the killer because it was super hard to think of. Especially when my teammates were kinda quiet.. which made the whole environment a little awkward. In the end, we came up with a pretty lame chant because we kinda gave up thinking.

My group's monument loool.

How did we even win third place hahah.

Dinner was okay. The food served were mostly Malay food (because we were staying in a Malay hotel lol). Had our first session after dinner. Pastor Brian Lopez who came all the way from Philippines preached about how us Christians always have a patch on our lives. We always tend to think that going to church all the time and serving God makes us a good Christian when we don't actually mean it. Which is true, I do that too sometimes.

After the session, the games committee organized their first night games which were known as Mission Nightmares! Before that, each team had to perform their chant. My group went up first, followed by the other five teams. Judging by every groups' performances, ours wasn't that bad after all. Then, there was short drama about three agents who were discussing about the killer and were killed. The drama was so funny! Kah Hoe, Ken and Sarah were so in character! Each team was allowed to go the scene after the drama to collect clues from the scene. My group had an disadvantage for none of us brought our handphones or cameras to take pictures of the clues. -_- Luckily Pastor Brian willingly borrowed his phone to us.

Each team was then given three papers of different colors which determined the station we were supposed to go. The goal was to win each station in order to collect clues within 15 minutes. In the first station which was the red station, we had to crumple newspaper to form balls and stuff them into pantyhose. Then, each of us wore the pantyhose on our head and knocked out four bottles. Our team won, thanks to Su Jane who managed to drag the one with the pantyhose to knock out the bottles.

Our next station was the yellow station where each of us had to assemble a toy gun and shoot it in the air. We were losing to our opponents in the beginning because we were quite slow. Then there was this bonus round where we sent our two best people to assemble the gun again. Luckily, Samuel and Jun were fast enough and because of that, our team won!

Next up was the green station where the game was based on pure luck. If you know how to play Black Jack, it will be easier for you to understand. Each team had to send out one member. The game master will then randomly pick out a card from a stack of cards and paste it on the his/her's forehead. Then, the person has to decided whether to pick up another card from the stack or not, not knowing what number is on the card. The one which has the highest total number wins! This game is pretty hard to explain. All you need to know is we won the game! xD

Which also means, my team won ALL the night games! :'D

I appreciate the effort made by the games committee in organizing the night games. It was the games that brought my teammates together as one! Also, it lifted our spirits to win the next games. We felt more happy when we found out that we were the only team who had all 6 clues from winning the games. xD Not boasting, just overwhelmed with joy.

It was time for supper. The Maggi Cups were sold out fast! Stayed back for awhile to pray for the campers along with the other committee members. Headed back to my room later and found Nellie in there. We talked a lot for the whole night with Eve and Hazel too. Nellie had to leave the room because the task force people said it was time for bed. Talked with Eve and Hazel but Hazel crashed in early, so I stayed up with Eve. It was almost 4am when we stopped talking. Forced myself to sleep because I had to wake up early the next day.
